Seat Belt Use
Trauma to you or your unborn baby as a result of an automobile accident can be very serious and life threatening. Wearing your seat belt properly is your best defense against trauma during an accident. Place the shoulder strap above your abdomen and the lap belt across your hips.
Travel Parameters
- Discuss air travel after 28 weeks of pregnancy. Only local travel after 36 weeks of pregnancy. Please discuss any travel plans with Dr. Wheeler prior to making final arrangements.
- It is recommended that travel be restricted to within a reasonable range of Hoag at thirty weeks of pregnancy.
- You should discuss travel plans with Dr. Wheeler as early as possible to be certain that it is appropriate for your pregnancy. Be prepared that new situations may preclude you from completing your trip.
- See Dr. Wheeler just before you leave should you travel late in pregnancy.
- Always purchase travel insurance.
Travel Tips
- When choosing a destination, always consider that the shorter the distance the better.
- Discuss any exotic trips or trips out of the country with Dr. Wheeler before making plans.
- Buy travel insurance. Problems can come up at any time.
- While you are in route, try to walk around every hour to avoid blood clots.
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- In case of emergency, ask Dr. Wheeler for the name and phone number of a doctor in the area in which you are traveling.
- We discourage high altitude trips during pregnancy if you are not acclimated.
